It was founded by Dany Levy in March 2000 It was sold to Bob Pittman's Pilot Group Ventures for around $3 million in 2003, and then sold to Comcast for $125 million in August 2008. Previously a New York-only insider's newsletter; DailyCandy has since expanded to publish editions specific to a dozen other cities.
It is known as a trendsetter , a source for sample sale listings, and for its terse, informal writing style—"dispatches appear to come from a gossipy, mysteriously connected friend" .
DailyCandy after much success in New York City, then branched out into other U.S cities, including Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Miami, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, San Francisco, Seattle and Washington D.C
DailyCandy has also expanded and in 2006 launched its first non-U.S.
