The Fab 4 is a reference to the Lakers during the 2003-2004 season, as the team consisted of 4 superstars, Shaquille O'Neal, Kobe Bryant, Karl Malone, and Gary Payton. Many people expected them to win the championship, and go down in history as one of the greatest teams ever assembled.
However, injuries to several key players, a rape charge against Kobe Bryant, and feuding between O'Neal and Bryant caused many distractions for the team. They reached the championship but lost to the Pistons in 5 games.
