Quake Live

Focusing on the multiplayer aspect of the game, it succeeds its predecessor Quake III Arena (Q3A) as a "major league" first-person shooter eSports competition game. The game entered an invitation-based closed beta in 2008, and Open Beta began on February 24, 2009.

Development
The trailer claims to support 30 maps. During the QuakeCon 2008 keynote speech, John Carmack stated that Quake Live will have no mod support but will be continually updated and may include officially approved user-made maps.

On the newly launched website (August 1, 2008), Quake Live is claimed to have over 25 maps and 4 game modes. It is thought that the maps are currently based on originals from Quake III Arena and Quake III Team Arena, but have added extras.
Quake Live is currently in beta testing.
