Xavier Renegade Angel
It premiered at midnight on November 4, 2007 on Adult Swim, and November 1, 2007 on adultswim.com.
The show features a style characterized by a loosely formed, noncontinuous plot and the heavy, ubiquitous use of absurdist humor, similar in genre to other Adult Swim animated series such as Aqua Teen Hunger Force and 12 oz. The second season premiered on February 12, 2009.
Recurring characters
There is generally very little continuity between episodes, and only four characters have made repeated speaking appearances.
They are:
Xavier: Xavier is often shown to be deeply insecure and can turn on people if they make him feel bad about himself, even if they don't mean it. It usually acts like an ordinary hand, but in the episode "The 6th Teat of Good Intentions", it appeared to have a life of its own and spoke to Xavier directly.
In many episodes Xavier shows a taste for human flesh, licking blood off a boys face or taking a bite out of a human heart.
Chief Master Guru: This supposedly Native American shaman took Xavier in after he became orphaned, and taught him the ways of the wilderness. The Shaman features frequently in flashbacks, and—despite Xavier's adulation—is shown to be abusive, bullying and cruel.
He eventually fakes his own death to get rid of Xavier.
Xavier's father: Being dead, Xavier's father only appears in flashbacks and visions. In one recurring scene, Xavier asks his father who caused the fire.
He answers, "Our son," which Xavier misinterprets as "Arson," only for his father to die before he can correct Xavier.
Computer: Computer is used by Xavier for analysis and information. He appears as a jerkily-edited live-action actor set in front of a jarring black and white background.
It is not clear whether Computer exists or is just a figment of Xavier's imagination. Played by John Flansburgh.
Style and content
Aesthetically, the show's simplistic computer generated animation resembles video games such as Second Life and The Sims.
