Parise was the MVP of the 2004 IIHF World Junior Championship, won by the United States.
He is a natural center but currently plays left wing for the New Jersey Devils on the second line with teammates Travis Zajac and Jamie Langenbrunner, which is commonly referred as the PLZ line, or ZZ Pop (ZZ for Zach and Zajac, Pop for Langenbrunner, the vet on the line) by Devils fans.
On November 30, 2007, in a game against the Montreal Canadiens, Parise got his first National Hockey League natural hat trick. He also holds the Devils franchise record for the fastest goal in a season-opening game, which he did just 26 seconds into the 2006–07 NHL season opener.
The only other Devils player to score in the first minute of the season was Stephane Richer who scored a goal 49 seconds after the start of the game in the 1991–92 NHL season.
On April 28, 2008, it was announced that Parise has been named an alternate captain of the 2008 U.S.
